Hi, I’m Carys. I’m a freelance writer and currently the Group Digital Editor of BBC Wildlife and BBC Countryfile Magazines.
Specialising in the outdoors, travel and fitness, I have more than a decade of experience in print and digital publishing. Skilled in creating compelling content that delivers results, my work has appeared in the Guardian, BBC Countryfile Magazine, Outdoor Fitness & Adventure, Active Traveller, In the Moment, Cooler Magazine, Bikeradar, Runner’s World and Women’s Running UK among other publications. Take a look at my portfolio for a selection of my work.
With a proven track record in developing audiences, reach and engagement to hit challenging editorial and commercial targets, I am highly skilled in digital content and SEO strategy, analytics, social media management, email newsletter campaigns, e-commerce, commissioning, editing and writing for the web.
I have worked on a number of website relaunches for both B2B and B2C titles, including Startups.co.uk, edie.net, Women’s Running UK and BBC Countryfile. Since managing the SEO and content strategy for the popular BBC websites countryfile.com and discoverwildlife.com organic search traffic and page views have grown considerably.
Social media management is another area I have expertise in, having previously managed London Marathon Events and World Marathon Majors social media strategies to bring these world-class events to a global audience. To have a nosy at my previous work, check out my Linkedin.
Away from the desk, I am an avid silversmith and make eco conscious jewellery inspired by nature using recycled silver, sea glass and ethically-sourced gemstones. Check out Carys Rhian Jewellery to see my online shop and collection.
A keen traveller who loves to explore new places, I’m passionate about embracing slow travel and active adventures. Happiest outdoors in the British countryside, I can often be found hiking, running or wild swimming.
